John Edward Leonard
November 1, 1919 - August 10, 2012
JOHN EDWARD LEONARD 1919 - 2012 On Friday, August 10th at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, Picton, a gentle soul left us at 6:10pm. John was a loyal and loving son, brother, husband (Betty, predeceased 1988), father, grandfather, uncle and dear friend. He will be deeply and profoundly missed by his children Peter (Jayne), Jayne (Robert Mack), Linda (Darryl Annis) and his two grandchildren, Jennifer and Michael Annis, and predeceased by his step-grandson Nick Bettie (Cindy). John will be fondly remembered by relatives in Quebec and the friends he made in Ontario. Born in Montreal on November 1, 1919, John was predeceased by parents Arthur and Cecily Leonard and was the last to survive of their seven children (Trudy, Fred, Dee, Frances, Jim, and Bob). Leonard Electric, a fixture on Sherbrooke Street in Montreal, was started in the early 1930's by John's father and ran until the mid 1980's when the business was sold. John continued to work part-time for the new owners until his eventual retirement in 1990. During WWII John served in Europe with the 6th Royal Hussars (RCAC) until his discharge in 1945. He returned home to marry Betty (nee Saxton) in 1948 - their three children were born in Montreal but now make their homes in Ontario. Following Betty's death, John moved to Ontario dividing his time between the homes of his children in Brampton, Courtice, and latterly at his son's home in Carrying Place. At his request there will be no service; cremation has taken place. Interment of his remains will be in Brampton where John will join his beloved wife. "Godspeed John, you'll be forever in our hearts"
