Dorothy Joan Vandenburg (nee Storms)

November 1, 1931 - August 11, 2015

“The Mail Lady” On August 11, 2015, after a long and determined struggle for many years, Dorothy Joan Vandenburg passed away peacefully at Hallowell House with her husband and family at her side. Loving wife and best friend to Peter. Cherished mother of Dennis (Dorothy), Paul (Kim), Pamela and Lisa (Randy). Nanny to Jamie (Cheryl), Jeff (Crystal), Zak (Bobbi), Hilary, Kiersten and Melissa. Great Nanny to Jayden, Cooper, Jake, Anna and Jennifer. Dorothy will always be remembered for her 35 years of delivering both the mail and smiles on Rural Routes 4 and 5. Her love of music will never be forgotten and her beautiful voice never silenced. Cremation has taken place and respecting Dorothy’s wishes a graveside service for family, friends and loved ones will be held on Monday August 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Cressy Cemetery with a reception to follow at Burley Hall. For those who wish, donations to The Canadian Diabetes Association, The Canadian Cancer Society or The Cressy Cemetery Board would be most appreciated. Dorothy’s family have many people to thank for all the years of support and love given to Mom - in particular, Dr. Norah Connell for her endless care and compassion; the kind and loving staff and residents at Hallowell House who gave Mom many happy moments in her last years; the staff at PEC Memorial Hospital with special thanks to the devoted nurses working there; the staff at Belleville General Hospital; all her Cressy friends and neighbours and everyone who sent best wishes, good thoughts and kept her in their prayers.
